Warts' Revenge on Sat 26th Nov 2016

22 starters, 40@40 League

Firstly I would like to apologize for the delay in getting the results out. I was only the stand in RO as the original RO was off gallivanting somewhere in Wales. So after some banter & general piss taking on the Dark Peak Facebook page & in the Sportsman, I posted a copy of the results & race report through said RO's letter box last week, but he has not for filled his duties. Barr Humbug. So I've dug through the recycling & retrieved the original. This year's Warts Revenge was my first race as RO. So, totally unlike me, I was up early & off. On the drive up Ringinlow Road, the mist increased so bad, that the drive over the hill to check water levels at Burbage Bridge, was slow going with the growing apprehension that this was going to be a fun race in this clag. A quick check of the water levels, all good, then a lovely drive back to the start as the sun as the sun was trying to burn through the mist. At the start 21 soles gathered & were eager to go as waited for Mr Northrop to get ready. There was some heckling from the pack as it had gone 10:30 when the 22nd runner turned up. Tim. More heckling & banter, then off into the mist. After the Qurries the mist vanished to reveal a beautiful stunning day. Towards Burbage Bridge the mist enclosed us again as Neil & Dave disappeared. Burbage valley was cold & disorientating with a few people missing the bottom of the Plument. It wasn't until the ascent up Callow Bank( those of us who took the direct route ) that on gaining the summit did we pop back out of the mist into a stunning cloud inversion, so helping the the not so good navigating runners, to a cracking run across to Stanage Pole & on to Rudd Hill. At the sharp end Neil beat Dave with a better line through the Qurries to claim the newly commissioned trophy I threw together. Everybody got a prize of some description from the goodie bag, even though some people had the cheek to hand it back & ask for something better, Tom, much fun & banter in the Norfolk Arms topped off a grand morning's running.

Thanks, Frostie Pants
