Hunter Wreck on Wed 9th Oct 2013

14 starters

What a splendid night - a fierce North-Westerly wind held back speedy progress, as 12 stalwarts headed up to New Cross - followed later by Greg and Pete. All seemed fine as runners plunged into the swamps of upper Hobson Moss Dike and on towards the Duke's road. Then the fun happened as the leaders went off too far right and the chasers went off left, leaving myself to move right up the field to get to the Hunter first !

Alas normal service resumed as Tim and Ian took careful order on the return to Emlin. Great to hear that Willy used the 'corridor' to good effect and one or two others recognised its value on the return. The late starters used the chase and distant lights to good effect finishing much faster. Everyone seemed invigorated by the outing but whether it will return again remains an unknown.

One of the great value of running this race, in uncertain country, was that everyone has their compasses with carefully noted bearings on the maps.
