A glorious evening for what could be the last running of the race in its current format, as the splendidly located hotel is in the throes of being converted into a reform school. Seems like last years FRA dinner may have been its swansong. An extended start taking out the manic decent to a bottleneck bridge with half a mile on the road, had thankfully been replaced with a fast descent into the valley followed by a long runnable climb into a setting sun, that obscured several false horizons before eventually reaching the entrance into Lyme Park and back to the old course. The removal of the vest as we approached the ridge before the sprint finish was definitely an act of bravado (rather than necessity) in response to a marshalls banter, as the temperature at the finish plumetted to about 6 degrees. The evening was topped off by replenishement in the Swan at Kettleshulme with the superb Skipton Copper Kettle Golden Pippin ale.
