Had an enjoyable day with the family at the Ennerdale Show on August 29th.
The tannoy announced a fell race so I thought 'why not?'.Not knowing what to expect I registered & enquired about the course. The very nice lady from Cumberland Fell Runners pointed up the Ennerdale valley & vaugely said 'up that one,on a bit & then back down.'I could be out for hours I thought so I turned up at the startline with full kit & some jellies only to be told by a fellow runner that the winning time was likely to be about 12 minutes.I'm slow but not THAT slow so I quickly dumped the bumbag & set off in pursuit. We hared off out of the show ring & immediately up the nearest fellside. The course consisted of a big steep climb, along a bit, turn round at a cairn & flat out down the way we had come up.Short but very sweet.
