JOHN EDWARDS – A short remembrance
It was with great sadness that I heard of John’s death in March. He was a distinguished “character” in the Dark Peak Fell Runners as evident by the soubriquets he was given, Gentleman John, Squire Read more
Martin Payne suggested we should have a day out and do the Fairfield race, I'd never done it, so I decided to go. What a good decision, it was 'one of those days' in the Lakes! After the start from Rydal Hall, the route takes the track through the farm to get the benefit from the knee deep cow muck, after that, it's back to the tourist track from Nab Scar to Fairfield, then back down the other side of the valley on a brilliant descent that went on for miles where Martin & me passed each other often. The views were wonderful, the tree colours at their Spring best and everything looked very well washed from the previous month's downpours. A handful of Dark Peak were there, Rhys won and was having post race tea and buns as we were climbing Hart Crag.
