Screes on Sat 22nd Oct 2011

74 starters

The Screes Race saw an unprecedented increase in the number of runners this year with a total

of 74 compared with 57 in 2010

This year the runners experienced overcast skies and high winds on the summit but with no rain. The conditions underfoot were good (if a little muddy and slippery on the rocky descent) and the hosepipe saw surprisingly little action.

Of the 74 runners taking part, 40 were veterans, and although no records were broken some fantastic times were achieved.

Congratulations to the race winner - Howgill Harriers Carl Bell who took the title for the second consecutive year with a time of 43:10 (3 seconds slower than in 2010!!) and Hugh O’Donnell (Ambleside) for taking second place. Pennine Fell Runners Steph Curtis was the first Lady and the Team race was won by Ambleside (67 points) with Black Combe in second place (92 points)

Sincere thanks to all the race Marshalls and staff at the Screes Inn.

We look forward to welcoming you all to the Middlefell Race on Saturday 17th March 2012, The Eskdale Show Race on Saturday 29th September 2012 and the Screes Race on Saturday 20th October 2012.

Steve, Caroline, Joe & Scooby.
