By 09.00 volunteers for duties were rolling up and by 10.00 so were the first runners. We expected 50 maximum and were astounded to reach 98 by the time Mr. Starter’s 12 Bore was discharged
Some great results from Dark Peak, many of whom fitted Longshaw in between Great Longstone, Friday and the Exterminator, Sunday. The prize to the runner travelling the farthest to the race went to Bill Edwards of Dark Peak who now lives in New Zealand
A big thanks is due from Longshaw Sheepdog Trials Association to everyone involved. Registration / Marshals / Accelerate for the prizes / Course tapers / raffle ticket buyers / the WI for the Marmalade, Chutneys & Pickled Onion prizes (bought by James Fulton & Son) / sweepers / all Runners, and everyone who stayed and helped us drink the Bar dry afterwards!
Longshaw Sheep Dog Trials Association is the oldest continuous trials in the country, run from 1898 to the present day, interrupted only by the two world wars. The organisation is a charity which runs on a shoestring, and with the help of everyone involved on Saturday, ~£450 has helped maintain the continuance of this traditional country sport. A magnificent sum when you consider the Sheepdog Trials prizes are on average £5 and it costs £12.50 to have a stall at the event (only just gone up from £10 after much discussion)

98 starters, Local LeagueThe weather for Longshaw Sheepdog Trials was pretty awful on Thursday & Friday this year. When the team of Helpers woke up in the Beer Tent on Saturday morning it was cold, wet & windy – things did not bode well!By 09.00 volunteers for duties were rolling up and by 10.00 so were the first runners.
