115 startersIf you fancy a half Roaches race, then this is for you. Lush fields, woods, rocky paths and a view. The view here to the West is of Morecambe Bay with the Lake District as a backdrop and to the North East, Ingleborough Hill and Whernside. This race is part of the Quernmore Field Day and as well as fell runs for Ul2's and U15*s there are 52 races for ages 5 to 15 with prizes from 20p to 50p per race. Does this mean that all these kids will be professionals?
This race was named after a poor lad of 22 who died in his sleep after a race in Scotland. I've noticed a few races named after people and I think it would be nice if we all had our favourite fell race named after us when we departed. There's no reason why races couldn't be named after more than one person. It might make the fixture list a bit longer, but much more interesting and historical. As long as mine wasn't 'The Great Urban Fell Run'; that honour should be given to its creator, Alan Yates.
I was the only Dark Peaker there but I discovered that the 3rd lady who finished just before me by the name of Ms R Briggs was from Sheffield and admitted to knowing some Dark Peak members. If anybody out there knows her, try and sign up this prize winner.
