Cannock Trig Point on Sat 4th Jan 1992

163 startersTo date this is the nearest fell/hill race to home; it's nice to have a bit of a lie in- Why can't more races be in the afternoon?
Whilst somewhat different to the surrounding countryside (farmland), I always find Cannock Chase reminds me of series of reclaimed slag heaps that seem to lack life. This is typical orienteering country, but unfortunately the course goes from trig to trig, mostly on hard gravel tracks. 15 miles of that leaves a few aching joints. There was some relief with steep wooded descents if you followed the 'Local Knowledge' Mercia had it's usual relaxed but efficient organisation, and it was nice to have 2 watering holes en route, albeit where the course crossed a fast busy road.
