Considering this traditional race has little more than 500feet of climb (editors note: hmm - my gps watch and Tracklogs claim at least 1250\' of climb in 10.5 miles) and arguably covers some of the worst ground you could contrive to find in the Dark Peak it seemed to create a level of chaos and post race chuntering that suggests it is up there with the best. Another fine virtue is that having been run nobody is much the wiser as to which is the quickest route or direction round although many confessed to have found the worst. At the sharp end Ryhs and the rehabilitated Tim Tett came in a country bog ahead of anybody else. John Gunnee came in bent double and Phil Cox came in as darkness settled over Lodge Moor having lost one contact lens somewhere in that god awful ochre quagmire this side of White Stones.
Thanks to Roger Slater for making up the times for those missed off the results at the end and almost contriving to put me ahead of Tim Ray. With everybody safely in, with pint in hand and the trauma over it is difficult to see how else you could have so much fun on a Wednesday night – fortunately memory is selective?
