Tracks and paths for two laps with a bit of road so I found
myself on the front of the grid in road shoes with a typical
Pennine downpour to cool the enthusiasm. By the time I had reached
the queue at the first stile I had shuffled back to 80th out of
86. Ankle deep mud on steep paths in road shoes put paid to any
aspirations of pulling a few places back on the uphill bits or on
the downhill mudslide.
On the second lap I was denied a breather at the stile but
managed to overtake a few muddy torsos. The finish was a huge
puddle which appeared to have served as a bath for the entire
field.
A recommended short evening race for those with reasonable
access to Holmfirth and a big plastic bag for muddy clothes: the
Timothy Taylor\'s in the nearby hostelry is also highly
recommended.
