139 startersA fierce, cold north west wind blew over the boggy Bowland hills. A very steep grassy climb up the shoulder of Parlick led to squelchy peatland similar to Kinder. After heading the field early on, I lost touch with the leaders on a steep heathery descent to langden castle at about half way. A gruelling climb up to unfamiliar ground followed and I was temporarily lost. Then a rising traverse on stony ground, painful on the feet, was followed by a plunging grassy descent to the finish at Fell Foot. In all, a superb race on real fells.
