Margery Hill on Sat 2nd Feb 2008

8 startersUnderfoot conditions of two inches of snow and ice thick enough to support a man (generally) led to a slower than usual running of the Margery Hill race. Conditions added around half an hour to normal times. The weather was neither pleasant enough to make it fun, nor harsh enough to create an epic. At least the threatening clouds disappeared north and left us to a worthwhile jaunt in the snow.
The small yet select field split into three groups from the off, with Ward, Boyle and Crowson at the front and Berry, Slater and Westgate at the rear. Al Ward retired, I can only assume with earache if he was running with Phil.
The results suggest that John and Phil stayed close throughout, whist behind them Paul Orton gallantly tried to stick with Mark only dropping off the pace late on. The three finely tuned athletes at the back took turns to lead, with Tom taking up snowplough duties on the way home and latterly out muscling Roger and Graham.
As we don\'t really know what happened at the front, Harmer rules apply and Graham Berry is declared the winner as first V60.

Leading 2 times amended (thanks Phil) with this additional comment:

A superb race; treacherous wind on Margery Hill with blowing spindrift.John and Alan Ward (unwell-run down after a cold)acted as snowploughs for which I was very grateful. I bonked at 2 hours forgetting extra food-essential in an event of this length and weather severity.
