35 startersThe day dawned grey and very wet on the Thornbridge camp site, leading the half-dozen or so overnight campers to wonder if any other runners would turn up. But the sun soon chased the cloud away, and by eleven o’clock there were twenty-five athletes on the start line in the village playing field. Tim Tett led all the way round to finish comfortably clear of the pack in what may be a new course record. There were some good tussles further down the field, notably between John Myers and his dog – despite John’s many terse instructions, there can be little doubt that the dog is the controlling force in this partnership.
At the organiser’s suggestion, the finish may be extended slightly next year to the far river bank. This will do little for the runners’ composure, but will add immeasurably to the amusement of the spectators.
