7 startersA fine clear sunny day started early as Ken and his dog had to set off early because of other commitments. The fine conditions set us up for a fast time and the small field meant that no-one went astray and the support (me) wasn't stretched, in fact I managed a bit of sunbathing with a mug of tea at bar dyke. The field was missing some stars of this race, most noticeably last years winner and Brugarolas trophy holder Tom Westgate obviously making sure he doesn?t get it this year. Andy Harmer and Tim Hawley ran together all the way round until the final sprint from the trig where Andy pulled away a two minute lead. Tim still appeared happy with what he thought was third place until it was pointed out that Kens time beat him by one minute and so did his dog this put him 5th and in the lower half of the field, pretty poor really.
Thanks to everyone who came to my 40th birthday party that night especially those who came dressed up in a circus theme, it all went smoothly thanks to my wife Jill who did everything, food, bunting, helium ballons and still found time to help support at moscar. - John Gunnee
