Export resultLong Mynd Hike on Sun 12th Oct 2003
445 startersBit of a tough run this one organised by the local scout group as a run / walk. It's 50 miles like the Rotherham Round, but there's 8000 ft of climb. A very well organised event with a kit check that nearly wouldn't let us run because the elastic bandage was only 7.5CM not 8.0CM and one of us dint have any scissors! The route is into the hills and valleys around Church Stretton, Shropshire which are steep, grassy slopes with very little erosion and some boss views from the tops. Good rural stuff and lots of pleasant villages & architecture to while away the hours looking at as you potter along. Plenty of tea & soup stops on the 17 control route. We were stopped for a spot check after 33 miles to check our Whistle, Torch and shoe soles ' Goodness knows what they would have done if they found we had got that far in carpet slippers. A good day out with excellent navigation by Tom, ably assisted by Phil and useful comments from Kev. I kept out of these decisions as usual and admired the views. Got back home exactly 24 hours after getting up & going out for a run (a good day, but I think I will count it as one I have done ' probably not one to repeat). -
