Loxley Lunge on Sat 10th Jul 2004

21 startersThe course was exceptionally well pruned, allowing for obstacle-free progression, and a clear view of the treacherous descents. Most runners took advantage of this to place their feet wisely and avoid serious injury. The exception was the organiser, whose pride was so hurt at being overtaken by Hamish that he lunged recklessly down the clifftop path and sprained an ankle for the second time in his own event. Well, at least I am getting across the point that this is a potentially dangerous race.
Tim Hawley placed an early time and held the lead for most of the evening until Tim Tett turned up late to snatch victory and a record for the new course. He was probably faster last year when we did the course for the first time, but I lost the results so it never counted! Young Dan was first junior, and a very impressive third overall. But he failed to be first Dad-thrasher, that honour going to Hamish Harmer. First nowt was Rob Davison, who was also the only person in the race not to get a letter after his name for being either really old, really young or female.
A notable feature of this year’s race was the strong turnout by Dark Peak women. Karen was the fastest, setting a new women’s record of 26:14. Thanks to everyone who stayed for the barbecue despite the unseasonally cold weather. And special thanks to Rob Davison for fathoming incomprehensible instructions to erect the new barbecue even as the burgers were thawing.
