This Monday sees us at Fox House Trail for the first of three new race routes in these parts, all specifically designed to cater to the needs of members living in the cosier reaches of north-east Derbyshire and south-west Sheffield. If you were ever misguided enough to vote for Nick Clegg, then these are surely the races for you.
The race to be crowned women’s series champion remains wide open, with only three solitary runs to date, by three different women. With eight races remaining in the series, it would be great if we could generate at least a sliver of interest from the female half of the club; it could be a unique opportunity for someone to go home with their very own piece of club silverware – and if you’re after reassurance that the rest of us don’t bite, do ask Hannah, Helen or Nicky before you come along.
Your friendly neighbourhood series organiser recently re-recced the route, a mashup of elements of the Burbage Skyline and further reaches of the Tigger Tor race, and he has added a couple of additional pointers in the route description to pre-empt further comments from the men’s club captain about the clarity and definition of what, for our purposes, constitutes ‘trail’. Whilst the R.O. hopes this will be appreciated, he nevertheless anticipates that at least one Saville will miss at least one track junction. That said, this is pretty familiar terrain for most of us, safely bounded by roads on all sides, so even the most incompetent amongst us should have little difficulty navigating their way back to the pub, should they go awry.
If you’d like to carshare, please drop a message into a relevant club WhatsApp chat, or if you get yourself to the start via the 272 bus (stopping directly outside the pub), then the R.O. and others will very happily give you a lift home afterwards.
Very much looking forward to welcoming a few new faces on Monday evening, from 6pm.
