Following some near misses with cattle in recent years, and especially during the 2022 event, attempts have been made to work with the grazing tenant to make the race safer for all. Unfortunately we’ve been unable to find a workable resolution, and as such I’ve taken the decision not to progress with this year’s race.

This doesn’t necessarily mean that the race can’t be reworked into a format that would work in the future and there are a number of ways that this might be achieved such as devising a longer route and holding the race at a different time of year perhaps. The race has enjoyed strong support from a number of external parties over the years (Eastern Moors Partnership, Fox House, Edale MRT inter alia) who I know would want the race to continue in some form, as I would, but regrettably my work, family and training commitments mean I don’t have the capacity to give the RO role the time it needs, given the revisions required.
The reformatting of Burbage Skyline will be an agenda item at this year’s AGM and it would be great to have a discussion as to what we can do, and also see if any members may be interested in getting involved. In advance, I am very happy to discuss the situation and RO role on a one to one basis.
I do want to thank all the DPFR volunteers who have given up their time to make the race a success ever since I took it on in 2015, especially John D and Richard H.
Cheers, Paul Fauset (RO)
