Calderdale Hike
Saturday 12 April 2022
36.3 miles (58.4 km); 6,234 feet (1,927 m) of ascent
The official ascent details do not seem to be tie up with the conversions: 6,234 feet equates to 1,900 m and 1,927 m equates to 6,322 feet!!!
There was a thorough kit check prior to the 9 am start for all runners with distances of 36, 26 and 16 miles. All three distances had places for walkers who started at earlier times.
The 36 mile route meandered around the Calder Valley passing Todmorden and other small towns and villages and up and over various moorland areas including bits of the Pennine Way near Blackstone Edge. There was a brief out and back over the M62 to Windy Hill before skirting some reservoirs before returning to the finish at Sowerby Cricket Club. There was a bit of frost and ice in places on the course but it was a clear day with great weather.
