Lakes Mountain 40

Saturday 12 June 2021

40 miles (64.4 km); 9,268 feet (2,825 m) of ascent (approximate figures although the distance was shown as 35.7 miles 56.6 km on the GPX plot of the route)

Starting at Askham the route visited the summits of Loadpot Hill and High Street before passing Angle Tarn on the way to Patterdale. A steady trail up Grisedale led to Grisedale Tarn then in contrast to the Lakes Mountain 42 race that follows a rocky path down and then a trail to the Wythburn Church car park the route went up past Dollywagon Pike and Nethermost Pike to the summit of Helvellyn. Then in another change to the Lakes Mountain 42 the route descended Swirral Edge rather than taking in Lower Man and Whiteside. Drop bags were again available at Patterdale before the final peak of Place Fell before a return to the start via Martindale Church.
