We have received the following request, which I will copy in full below. If you are interested there is an email address and mobile number at the bottom:
My apologies for copying in all of you on this email, but i was unsure who was best to address it to. I’m an exercise physiology student currently completing an MSc at Sheffield Hallam University. I am due to begin a study investigating endurance performance in the heat, primarily in the 10km run. We are investigating the use of an ice slurry drink (similar to a slush puppy) as a ‘pre-cooling’ method, to improve performance and prevent heat exhaustion when competing in hot environments. With your permission I wondered if it would be possible to place an information sheet at the club or speak to some members in-case they wish to participate?
Participation will entail 3 visits to the Sport and Exercise Science department on Ecclesall Road, and all participants will leave with an extensive physiological profile and personalised training recommendations, which will be free of charge and would normally cost around £300. The study will not affect existing training or competitions and hopefully will provide participants with some very useful and accurate information upon which to base their training.
As with all physiology work at the University, this study will be completed under agreement with the Research Ethics Committee and an extensive information sheet will be available for those interested to read.
Kind regards,
Carl James
