Congratulations to Ryan and his supporters for his successful BG run on 12th & 13th June – report follows:
I completed the Bob Graham round on the 12/13th June in 22hrs 33mins. On stage 1 Paul Cornforth (Borrowdale)supported me and we made up lots of time on schedule and had great evening conditions. On stage 2 Mike Robinson and Rhys Findlay-Robinson (Both Dark Peak) ran with me as the low cloud and rain came in. Navigation was hard in the clag but we got through perfectly. For Stage 3 Dave Ward (Borrowdale) and Richard Howells (climbing friend) ran with me. Up to Bowfell we were below the clag and going well, but when we were high up the navigation was hard and the greasy wet rocks slowed us down. Another team had a rope on Broad Stand and kindly let us use it. We had some trouble finding the Scafel summit, but I should have reccied the stage more than once (which was Last year!). For Stage 4 I was still ahead of the schedule and Rich Hunt (Dark Peak) and Kate Cooper (CFR) supported me. Kate knew this stage very well and no mistakes were made, even though visibility was poor. By now the front of my ankles were getting sore on the descents but we still made up some time. For stage 5 Mike Fanning (Borrowdale), Judy Howells (Wharfedale) and Richard Howells supported me. The weather was sunny again and the end was in sight. Mike knew the best lines and I made some more time back on the schedule and I managed to sprint finish to Moot Hall and fell happy to have completed it. All the road support was done by Rich Hunt who did an excellent job. Thank you to everyone who helped me achieve this by either running with me, or giving me advice before hand (Tom Westgate, Ian Fitz and Richard Hakes).
