Run Leaders and Coaching

Over recent years, the club has agreed to pay course fees for a number of people to take introductory leadership courses. UK Athletics LiRF and CiRF courses are the two basic qualifications for running coaches. They enable the Juniors to run effective sessions, but they are also applicable to senior level coaching. As these funds have been allocated, we (Lewis Ashton in particular) strongly encourage take up of these courses. We currently have places for two LiRF and one CiRF available. Talk the Lewis if you are interested.

Lakeland Classics

For those who don’t know, The Lakeland Classics Trophy recognises performance in a series of seven classic Lakeland races each year. A runner’s best three performances count, at least two of which must be ‘Super Long’ races. The Super Longs are Duddon Valley, Ennerdale, Buttermere and Wasdale. Borrowdale, Three Shires and Langdale are the other three. All these races sit very well on a fell runner’s c.v. Six of the sixty runners who completed the required races this year were Dark Peak Fell Runners:

DPFR were 3^rd team behind Ambleside and Helm Hill. Next year’s series should start with the Duddon Valley race in early June. Further details here.

Saturday, 6^th November – Upper Derwent Stones Race. This highly recommended DPFR race starts from King’s Tree which, on Saturdays, can only be reached from Fairholmes by bicycle, bus or on foot, so work out how you’re going to both get there and return.

Sunday, 14^th November – Roaches. 50 at 50 counter.

Saturday, 20th November – Club Championships. Entry via the website.
