Now that Covid restrictions are slowly starting to ease we are able to re-start club races. They will be in the all too familiar time trial format for the time being, but with the possibility at least of mass start races later in the year. To date, there are two events on the Calendar for next month and more will follow.

Upcoming events:

Kinder Killer TT. Monday 29th March to Sunday 18th April. There’s a three week window of opportunity to complete this classic club outing. It is arguably a touch less arduous than the Kinder Killer but, in my view, a much more enjoyable day out. Running it anti-clockwise the ascents of the various streams including Blackden, Kinder, Grindsbrook and Jaggers are definite highlights. The fastest known times for the various age groups are:

Men5:43:26 (Tom Saville)

Women7:08 (Sally Fawcett)

M40 6:34

M45 7:56

W45 7:56

M55 8:00

M60 8:21

There are plenty of gaps that need filling and some vulnerable times. The M55 record is held by a Pennine runner and I’ll be disappointed if someone doesn’t sort this out!

Eyam & Abney TT. Monday 5th to Sunday 11th April. We ran this 18+km route last summer and it is a re-run of the 2017 club champs race. A navigational tip: From CP1 at the stone circle, follow a bearing of about 210 to pick up a trod and follow it for about half a mile before cutting up left to pick up the path that heads northwest downhill towards Stoke Ford. A more direct line from the stone circle does not pay dividends. In the latter stages, the racing line down Bretton Clough can be a bit of a mystery for the uninitiated.
