Very pleased that I’ve had asks for the Wasdale route notes. We can help with most things – (though not that final Arrochar descent line….).
And please ask if help is needed with travelling…
Wasdale:- News from Dave Sykes:-“A good result at Wasdale on Saturday in fine conditions. John Hunt in the top ten and Matt H in the teens. Nicky 29th and 2nd lady. I was 30th and Ashley not far behind. This gave Ash and I the rare honour of a Lakeland classic team win! This in spite of Ricky Lightfoot winning and Ellenborough having another 2 ahead of me. A good DP turnout of the 140 running. Well organised as always with great food. Thanks to CFRA and Richard E.” results
Thurlstone:- results.
Alva Games. Mike travelled far for this BOFRA event, but finished 5th, and first V40. results. 1.5 miles 1300 feet
“A very grand title for such a short race. This event is such a good family day out, with numerous track running races, cyclo cross races, Highland sports and fair ground rides galore. The route is ridiculously steep and unfortunately heavy rain set in an hour before the senior race. Keeping your feet on the descent wasn’t an option, hence, I am now sporting a skinned and very sore backside. Alastair Dunn won for the 7th year in a row.”
Broomhead:- results.
Holme Moss:- results.
Oldfield:- as good as they come, excellent plus. Carshare managed 2nd – or was it 3rd? – but only in the queue for the superb pub-made pie and peas. Had it been given in finishing order there wouldn’t have been that much left, I regret to say. A trip round the Haworth moors, just as boggy as expected….
Summer Series (9) – Wicken Wizz – from the Woodhead road.
Black Rocks:- results.
Bamford. – results.
Sheldon. – results.
BOFRA Gargrave – was a good enough little race across fields and that. A small field, only 29 runners.
But (1) – more Ladies than Men! Is that a first?
But (2) – everyone got a prize! Another first? This Wharfedale system of prize-giving is unique. On the table is an array of cans of beer, and you get given something at the discretion of the organiser, and the baying rabble . Three cans if you’re in favour, one can if they don’t like you! Of course, all taken in good fun.
Guardian’s Country Diary , Lewis sent this a while back, about the delights of Kinder’s peat bogs. I’m a touch slow sorting out how to put it out… and you get added photos with the online version!
