As an avid armchair TdF watcher it’s instructive to look at the power produced by some of the top riders. The SRM data here from stage 4, won by Andre Greipel shows he completed the stage at an average power output of 193 watts. As I suspect he is heavier than the average fell runner, it’s probably an output that a lot of club members could manage, maybe with a bit of bike specific training. Whether they would have the skills to shelter in the peleton to actually get the advantage is another matter.

What is probably indisputable, though, is that they would not match his 88kph surge, from a peak power output of 1556 watts. That’s a lot of lighbulbs.
