A very busy weekend, please help with whatever you’ve been doing…
Punlumon – the hopes are that Jon Morgan has won the Ultra Series, with a win here… “Punlumon was a great course on Saturday with loads of excellent fast grassy running on a ridgeline, the odd heinous tussock and a few tracks towards the end. It is a wild remote place. Stuart Mills and I both knew we had to beat each other to win the Runfurther Ultra Champs, but had never raced each other. He had reccied it, and after initially starting very fast, backed off the pace once I think he realised he wasn’t going to be able to drop me and Ben Abdelnoor from the outset, and probably rightly thought we would lose some time navigating. We had a 4 min lead half way, but after the odd minor nav niggle he had pulled it back to a minute with 3 miles to go. I wasn’t relishing the prospect of a hard race at the end with a man who wins 100 mile races, so I gambled on a completely different line around the opposite side of the final hill. It was 70 metres less height gain but unknown terrain as opposed to a path. In fact it turned out to be short grass and so we didn’t see him again. Ben could have easily beaten me as he was getting stronger, but we came in together as he ignored me telling him to run off. Adam Perry is, I think, the only person that can beat me overall if he wins the last 2 Ultras, but with a recent broken rib that might be tough. “
DT – Jon sent the results through, Nicky was 11th and 2nd Lady, please let me know if you’re missed out , from DPFR results….
Carshare’s Football Correspondent surfaces again, with how not to save a penalty….
Mountain Trial - results. A good day out from Kentmere. Conditions pretty well perfect, and an outstanding win in the Men’s race for Rhys. Prizes also for John Hunt, Kirsty, Gavin, Penny and Andy Barnett. Results should be along soon.
Peris Horseshoe . Report, etc. on DPFR results. Full results.
Derbyshire Chevin – Results.
Settle Loop – results. This was indeed a scenic classic on paths around Attermire Scar, almost reaching Malham Tarn, with Pen y Ghent and Ingleborough around, and no need to slog up them. All trail runnable, but recommended and worth thinking about for another year. Is this a first in fell-running – loads of excellent spare free cakes at the very very end. An impressive approach to prizes, only the first in each age group, with the majority being drawn out of the hat.
Good Shepherd:- results. (Mytholmroyd) Keith “went up to do the Good Shepherd – it’s a good course with a bit of everything – thought I’d finished when I got to Stoodley Pike for the second time – but the later run in is half the race. There were only 47 entrants due to changed date and absence from FRA calendar “
BOFRA Lothersdale:- One of these very low-key shows, with a one mile race thrown in, £1 entry. Dodge the showers, and the youngsters as they dash away at the start…
Kinder Barrel Race :- “The Dark Peak team won it again in a new course record of 45.56: Pete Hodges (capt) : Rob Little, Oli Johnson, Al Buckley, Rich Guillaume, Callum Gilhooley, Will Spain, Neil Northrop. Lots of PBs for teams on the day and a good turn out of supporters despite the heavy showers.”
and lots more photos.

World Masters 2011. This year’s event , near Krakow, seems to have been a very hard course, in bad conditions, with elements of organisation that left much to be re-thought. Next year the event is in Paluzza, which is Top Right of Italy, 18th September, worth bribing any “other half’s” with a romantic few days in quite nearby Venice…
RAB Mountain Marathon – 25th/26th September, is top part of the Lakes. A spare entry is going – “Entry available for RAB mountain marathon contact Lesley e-mail “
