Wadsworth Full and Half Trog.visibility nil…..In true miserly fashion most of us justified the entry fee by getting extra miles in. I only did the Half, the same difficulty as the Full was coming back from Cock Hill to Brown Knoll, and then to Sheepstones. Careful accurate compass work across the wastelands was needed….Very heavy going throughout, very tiring. A serious race for CVFR to promote, most successfully, and hot showers, loads of sandwiches, cake and drinks.

Margery Hill. ???

Ben Nevis is now full…

Ireland 2010 – on-line entries  and details etc. I’ll sort out a map for anyone gradually, just need to regain my 1/25000 map ( after Noonstones.) This must be a real belter of a course, starting from the Silent Valley, (a lot like Fairholmes). The usual post-race meal is on offer, worth going to for the prize-giving. Might it be a buffet this year? But a decent snack beforehand may be needed as a top-up….

Titterstone Clee:- part of the South Shropshire weekend. A surprisingly hard AS race, and Steve Storey finishing 10th. results
Long Mynd Valleys
results.  Steve Storey and Phil Walters running….
Fell End Clouds – Kendal Winter League

Blackamoor:- “There is £25 000 up for grabs for the charity/good cause that gets the most votes, Blackamoor is one of those good causes but is trailing in the race for the money and needs your vote to get the paths sympathetically restored. Please use the link  to vote for Blackamoor, through the Wildlife Trust…
The Wildlife Trust for Sheffield and Rotherham urgently needs to undertake improvements to a key bridleway at Blacka Moor Nature Reserve creating a sympathetically constructed surface using local stone and with appropriate drainage. This will prevent further erosion and damage to the fragile woodland ground flora caused by visitor usage.”

Hope Valley Adventure Film Festival
    Nick Wallis sends:-“
Sue and I have been super-busy organising a film festival  to be held at Hope Valley College on 27th Feb.  This is a fund raising event for the college.  (The lesson is don’t turn up to a PTFA meeting, and if you do then don’t come up with good ideas or raise your head when they ask for volunteers!  Its been a lot of work, but fun.) We have some great films and lectures, some ‘youth’ outdoor activities, mountain art exhibition, food and real ale from Hope Valley Brewery. Should be a good do, please come along either in the day (films etc) or the evening (Ian Parnell Lecture and beer).  And spread the word to anyone even remotely interested!  There’s a raffle with loads of ‘outdoor’ prizes as well. Check it out at the website

Anniversary Waltz and Teenager with Altitude
   -  on-line entries  TWA has a limit of 75, (seventy-five..) so get on with it…

Sunday. Mickleden Straddle. – Cancelled. The organiser “ went round the course Sunday morn.and had serious doubts re the snow/ice field up Cutgate and associated hazards/risks.After much discussing we’ve decided to cancel this years race.I’m as disappointed as anybody but we just feel its too risky”
DT – there was no snow last year, but very frozen,. Didn’t someone crash going up Cutgate? And if there’s ice as well……

Charnwood Hills. Any of our distant southern runners doing this? It’s good, round the Leicestershire parkland…

English National Cross-Country – is at Leeds, but the same day as Noonstone…….Do Carshare’s spies hint that if our Seniors are out in new full strength, we could be looking for first team? And Ladies out depth, and lots of U23 runners. Tremendous!

Ilkley Moor – is a while off, Sunday 21st Feb. The Junior races are good, well thought out, and safe to have your own race afterwards. The AS course is hard, 5ml, 1260ft, all well marshalled, and worthy of Championship status, just an unavoidable bottleneck start. Being the week before Noonstone, might be worth a consideration. Then the delights of Ilkley – very good park by the river – or even Otley…
ilkley No prizes for knowing this Ilkley landmark…..
