Widdop – 7 miles, of which six were seemingly tussocks. Parts of this would be on the Pennine Bridleway, and connoisseurs of Wadsworth could see Shackleton Knoll nearby. Not hilly, but high rough moorland – a shame it’s too far for evening Peak runners – a much more fell alternative to Bamford. results

Sheldon.- apparently the stampeding cattle being dangerous once more? Results

Tal y FanIt was one of those ” Where did he come from, who is he moments” at the Tal Y Fan race on Saturday 11th July where Dark Peak’s Matthew Speake smashed the course record to leave everyone else trailing to win in 65:03, 1:57 inside the old course record. The expected heavy rain held off for most of the day to produce excellent though, humid racing conditions for the 49 runners who set off from the carnival field up the steep road leading onto the hillside, while most of us were still on the road, Matthew Speake was already on his way up Tal Y Fan! Chris Near had a good warm up for the Snowdon race to finish 2nd in 73:10 “

Wasdale:- Results – 49 retirements – heat and high hills indeed.
The FRA forum….spreadsheet of Wasdale makes a good read .

It gets no easier, year on year…Earlier forecasts of rain changed, so hot, thirsty, just a bit colder on Scafell Pike. Plenty of water in the streams all the way round. Gable forever goes hard…A superb Men’s and V40 turnout, a double first will make inroads into the Lakeland Classics and the English Championships. Pity about injuries etc for the V50 – we need more depth to help spread the load.   photos.      Youtube Video    more photos

Jos Naylor Attempt. Congrats to Dave Lockwood, last seen shifting down to Sty Head whilst we were plodding up to Esk Hause….

Sheldon:- We remember fondly the stampeding cattle along the riverside, and Sheldon runners should have a read of this.
“Here is a story about Roger Slater’s son’s friends from the Manchester University lacrosse team that will get you in the mood. Shorty is in the green top in the photos. I particularly liked the reaction by his mate Morley – sign that man up for Dark Peak.
The video is even better.”

Cliffhanger  – Steve Matthews has sent “A few photos from the Cliffhanger urban FR in Millhouses today. Mick and Gavin 1st and 2nd”
  News from Jenny –  “
A photo gallery from yesterday’s ultrasprint won by Dark Peaker Neil Northrop ahead of Dave Scorah, Marcus Pinker and John Rocke.
In the women’s final Rachael Elder finished well clear only to find out she was DSQ’d for punching a wrong control to leave a very tight sprint finish between me and Estonian International Piret Klade which I unfortunately just missed out on!
Tim Tett took the veteran men’s victory.
500 kids tried orienteering in the maze over the weekend including a few Dark Peak families!

Thurlstone.
results  “A hot and muggy race round the fields and tracks of Thurlstone made the going fast and hard with wins for Dark Peak in both the Men’s and Ladies event, 82 ran with all 4 Dark Peakers in the top 15.This was the first of the 3 in 3, well supported by PFPR as it was part of their club champs.” – thanks, Ian.
