Kendal Winter League. Sunday was the final race, at Elterwater, with Mike 2nd, behind Ben Abdelnoor. The final results table  proudly shows Mike as first overall, and not to be outdone, Hazel as first Lady. That’s some notable achievement!

High Peak Marathon Results:- ” Let the endless micro analysis begin. Clearly there is a significant advantage in going up the steps of the village hall and through the small door to finish, rather than the more obvious but longer route round the front and through the french windows.”

Haworth Hobble Results:- Welcome news from Ian:-  “A mixed bag of Brown Shirts took the trip to Haworth for the Hobble, it what was expected to be a drowning. This week however the weather went the other way and we had a clear dry day if not very windy. The route for those who haven’t done it is mainly tracks which means the race is at quite a fast pace and hard underfoot. The ‘Wuthering Hike’ is the first race in the Vasque ultra series and as such had a large top quality field of approx 370 runners. Despite having a plan to set off steady I pushed a little too hard to start with before Dave Allen caught me up and then passed me at about 22 miles. From this point I was always looking over my shoulder for Nicky who I knew would turn up before the finish. Sure enough with about a mile to go she appeared running at the same solid pace she started the race but with the finish being at the bottom of the hill I just managed to hold her off. PB for both of us though and it later transpired that Dave had only just finished after suffering over the last few miles. so after 33 miles of running at our own pace we all came in within a few minutes of each other under 5.30″

Trollers Trot. was similar in thought to the Gallop, but as I went round in just under 4hrs, the 25mile would be a bit longer? A mass 8am start wouldn’t help any travellers, the runners could have set off later, as does the Gallop. Most scenic Yorkshire Dales, based around Grassington, Rylstone, stretches of the River Wharfe through Bolton Abbey, Burnsall etc. We avoided the gorge of Trollers Gill, with its limestone cliffs.
CP 2 was “Winterburn Reservoir”. That’s a sign of having made it, having a notable landmark named after you….Can’t think of many others just now, except “Lost Lad” which applies to most of us at some time…
