Uphill Masters in the Czech Republic. Just got back….Excellent. A minority go along for a good result, the rest go for the whole experience. Worth flogging up a remote wooded hillside for an hour – the rest is great. Everyone has tales of the journey from Prague – the dreaded daylight diversion round some road works, which everyone coming late ignored and drove straight through, train mix-ups etc. Enormously cheap food, 30p a pint, the whole thing staged superbly. There’s no entry standard, just a need to get up the hill somehow. And if that 80yr olds can can do it…
I’m looking forwards to Zagreb, Croatia next September – wherever Croatia is.

Lakeland Accidents:- 27 August,06:37, Blencathra – Halls Fell – “A runner (24 yrs) who was training for the Bob Graham Round slipped while descending the ridge and fell 100′ into Doddick Gill. He was lightly clad (as such runners are) and had suffered serious multiple injuries. Help was obtained from a RN Sea King helicopter and RAF Leuchars MRT.”
Also “A family of 3 (mother, father and 6-yr old daughter) simultaneously slipped while traversing Sharp Edge
and all fell over 100′ down the ‘usual gully’. 3 helicopters assisted in the rescue, as did RAF Leuchars MRT. Despite the well-resourced rescue, the mother sadly died. The father received minor injuries and the daughter, head injuries.” – Keswick M.R.
There but for fortune….
With Mountain Rescue in mind, don’t forget the Grin and Bear It, Saturday 4th October from Langsett, a good trip round Langsett, and a M.R Fundraiser.
BOFRA Photos Worth a flick if you’re bored.
Almost a Caption needed, though I fear most would be unprintable. This is Mick at Hebden Sports.
The Kilnsey pictures – top set are 2008 – don’t remotely convey the seriousness of that gully, though belayed Mountain Rescue helpers give a clue…
