Eyam Results : And from Martin Stocks, joining us soon, “I’d be grateful if you would pass on my heart-felt thanks to two Dark Peakers in the race; Having been ‘sandwiched’ between them for most of the second part of the race, I managed to strike clear on the descent through the woods, only to be out-sprinted by one in the finishing straight. This resulted in me finishing 22nd……….. and being awarded a spot prize – much to the dismay of finisher 21 and to the amusement of Ron in 23rd. The last laugh was on them – It was a £5 voucher for the local butcher’s – and I’m a veggie! (but my wife and kids aren’t).”
“PS old news now but the British Orienteering Team won the World Champs relay in Czech at the end of July for the very first time. ex-DPFR and current SYO member Jamie Stevenson anchored the team home.”
BOFRA Kilnsey Show Results:-
A classic Yorkshire Post photo – sheep judging with Kilnsey Crag beyond….Almost like a Glastonbury Fell Race, squelching mud all around this large scale Show. Then it rained… They’d put straw down for us to run out of the arena. Uphill was alright, steep and hard. A fast bit along the top, and then down. Off the top is nasty in the dry, but now wet limestone and very steep. Just a doddle compared to the gully. At the start we’d been warned “It’s a bit dodgy….”. Mountain Rescue at the top, halfway down and at the bottom to help, a muddy, completely slithery steep gully. The locals had gloves on to hold onto the fence, a dangerous ploy because if your feet whoosh away your shoulder is still hanging onto this fence.
Rob Hope was first, Tim came along for 5th, I’m still in one piece, success in itself.
Pilsley Results:- have been kindly sent from Martin Stocks.
Chipping Show Results: Lloyd last year, and Alan Ward first this year! Clearly stating his claim for a Relay place, with this excellent result as a marker. Wet across the uncut meadows to the hills, then plenty of strong running around to Parlick. In the finest tradition of DPFR Worselling, Alan let the front two hurtle off the end in the wrong direction, preferring to trust his compass, and was first home.
DT – not my call, but if you hope to get in the Relay Teams, having some recent genuine fell results helps sort things out…
BOFRA Hebden Sports Results : Our two Wandering Albatrosses alighted at Hebden, near Grassington, next to be seen at Eyam on home ground. A typical BOFRA race, short, sharp and steep. Unusual to be climbing walls as part of the accepted course, a lot slippy in the rain. Mick might well be in the V40 cash prizes, Matt surely close behind. The registration had a new line – it closed over an hour before the race – needed a lot of grovelling to get a number….
Burnsall Results : and another first for Ian Holmes…
Dentdale , Grasmere : Results will appear, but news from Phil:- “Dent – Lloyd won, clinching the record at the same time. Jackie also won the ladies. I twisted my ankle. At Grasmere – Rob Jebb won. Slower than last year, so the 30 year old record still stands. Simon Bailey 30+ seconds down. Natalie won the ladies followed by Helen in her first Lakeland fell race outing. Matt Hulley had a close race with Dave Soles, as did Mick with Natalie (Natalie beat him). Didn’t get the final results as they were not published before we left.”
