DUFTON – just a reminder that ALL MENS TEAMS need to be out in full strength. Not just the counters, but everyone can help by sending rivals further down the scoring system.

Dennis Stitt:- Thanks to Martyn Goodwin for the results – “held in perfect conditions.” – it hardly stopped raining all day up here…

Sierre Zinal:- a bit of fiddling brings about the results, can’t see any DPFR? The same front two Ladies as at Three Peaks.

Eccles Pike Results:-

Wensleydale Triathlon:-  sounds like a right epic!
Andy Moore’s report is on DP Homepage,-a
nd from Bob Johnson:- ” It was a windy, wet day in the Dales. Semer Water had risen to the side of the road (and the Portaloos), and
the choppy waters meant the swim was shortened from 1800 to 400m (to my relief!). The bike leg was 40 miles with steep, off-the-saddle climbs (1 in 4 in several places) and sometimes tricky descents, sweetened by a long, tail-wind assisted descent at the end. Finally, a 12 mile run up and down Great Shunnner Fell, which had a few stretches of slippery rock path to make up for the otherwise straightforward route. A low key event, but seemed well organised – it certainly wasn’t a day for the marshals. No sign of any results yet, but I saw Andy Moore at the finish and Trevor Milner on the run route – both going well.”

Stickle Pike:- Mike was at Broughton for this good, short race, 2nd behind Tom Doyle, just 7secs adrift.

BG Success:-  “Ian Winterburn set off on Friday at 6.30pm to attempt a low key BG. The weather was nice for the 1st leg but the clag closed in overnight to be joined by wind and then relentless rain for all of Saturday. The supporters did a marvellous job of very difficult navigating and Ian kept it all together. He never once lost confidence and kept up to his Tigger nickname 90% of the time! From Dunmail on it was a largely joint effort with another attempt from Congleton Harriers with a contender named Jim. We shared experience and looked after one another’s contenders in true spirit of these rounds. Across from Wasdale the rain poured down and we struggled to stay on the schedule but Ian kept eating, kept warm and kept going and pulled through to finish in a time of 23.40 hours.”
DT- many congratulations, to Ian and supporters, in evil conditions!

BOFRA Cray:- A simple race, set off from Cray, touch Buckden Pike trig, 1000ft? up above, and come down again. A classic AS race, full studs and fell shoes stuff……
Advance notice of Kilnsey Show – Tuesday 26th August, won by Rob Hope last year, and the most (……….)  fell descent in existence……

Arncliffe. A pictured little village far up Wharfedale, but all the Gala endeavours spoilt by the incessant rain. The bad news is that DPFR were stuffed by Wharfedale in the prestige event – the Dales Strong Man Pairs Time Trial. ( Before you get wondering, don’t think for a moment that I was in the Strong Man Team…). Carry 2 full churns across the field, put a tractor tyre over them, carry them back, throw sacks onto a shelf, hammer nails into the log, roll the log round the field, etc. We were doing well until Wharfedale put out their team of farmers, and that was it. Just wished I’d brought the camera, but full marks to Matt and Joe for stirring up the competition. As for the race, we set off, blast up the hill, shift down the hill and don’t ease off at all. Real AS stuff. For another year, a really good place to be – on a sunny day with ice-creams.

Tegg’s Nose Results:- many thanks to Ron for phoning our results through.

Lakeland 50 and 100:- This can’t have been so dry…..
