In line with the discussions at the 2021 AGM, the committee has agreed to the creation of a committee post with responsibility for Diversity and Inclusion. Consequently, we are seeking expressions of interest to take up the post.
As a new post, without precedent in the club, there is a desire to understand how the role might be seen to function with purpose. Dark Peak has traditionally prided itself on “just enough organisation”. So there is a persistent tension between “just enough” and “organisation”. The post holder has the full support of the committee and to navigate these challenges to enable the club to be welcoming to a greater range of participants than currently engage with the club.
The club has received a number of expressions of support and engagement for the development of greater diversity in fell running, hill going and outdoor activity. We have a need to create a focal point for these contacts to enable their benefit to leach into the heart and soul of the club. As such, this post cannot be an end in itself, but a starting point.
