The first of this year’s Summer Sharpeners series takes place this Wednesday night, starting from Burbage Bridge car park at 6.45pm. The format will be the same as last year’s with the race controls set out on a 1:15,000 scale orienteering map that will be released to runners 15 minutes before the race begins. To get round the course successfully you will need to have reasonable navigation skills, or you will need to follow someone like Steve Martin who has. If you don’t intend to follow Steve, please bring along a compass and a pen. Entry fee will be £1 to cover printing costs and prizes; A3 plastic covers will also be available at the cost price of 50p if the stationers on West Street has any left when the organiser calls in on Monday. Prize giving/post-match analysis in The Sportsman afterwards. If you need to know more, feel free to contact series organiser Dave Holmes.
