And what a battle has been played out for the title between Ben Rothery of Ilkley Harriers and Finlay Grant of Dark Peak Fell Runners. Going into the Borrowdale race they were both tied at the top after 4 races, both having 2 victories and 2 second places. While Finlay Wild of Lochaber Athletic Club won the Borrowdale race, but behind him there was a tactical cat and mouse fight going on between the two title contenders. They may as well have held hands all the way around, as they hit the final checkpoint side by side on Dalehead, it would be decided by a burst of speed from Ben to take 2nd place in the race, beating Fin by 13 seconds.
English Fell Running Championship
Stephen Wilson writes in the Fell Running UK Facebook group page…
“The race for the English Mens Fell Running Championship had its 5th counter at the Borrowdale Fell Race, Saturday 2nd August 2025.
There’s one race to go, the short Whittle Pike Race, and with Ben leading the Championship by 3 points from Fin, he now can’t lose the top place but Fin could go joint top, all to play for.”
