Dark Peak Races League

The Boxing Day Bogtrot marked the conclusion of the 2023 Dark Peak Races League which all the DPFR races are counters for. The scoring system is somewhat opaque but finishing at or near the front of a race seems to be beneficial as is running in as many of the races as possible. Tom Brunt topped the table having won 4 of the 9 races that he contested and Despina Berdeni won the women’s league winning 2 of her 5. Final league table here

New Year’s Resolutions

Here are some ideas:

Compete in the championships, English and or British.

Tackle the Lakeland Classics, fell racing at its very best. The 2024 series will be Duddon, Ennerdale, Buttermere Horseshoe, Wasdale, Borrowdale and Langdale.

Take on the Lakes Grand Prix, probably at least as much fun. Details inside the back cover or the FRA calendar.

The Hayfield Champs are closer to home. Details on page 72 of the FRA calendar.

Run in a Mountain Marathon if you’ve not done so before and run in one even if you have. The Peak Raid 3 Series in the autumn would be a good way to get started.

Past races

Boxing Day Bogtrot – Men’s Winner Tom Saville made a commendable attempt to visit all 27 controls managing all but three, losing a point for being back a little over a minute late. The controls he omitted being Ken’s Cairn, the Track / Stream Junction and the Lonely Tree. Women’s winner Emily Barnett also had a fine run collecting 16 controls to finish fourth over all. Totley Two Turtle Doves – Another win for Fin Grant with Felix Watts in 7th. There were also age category wins for Craig Jeffery (M50) and Alison Wainwright (F50) with Rachel Rose 2nd F40. Results
