A superb day out and an excellent day of performances from our teams.
Was this Dark Peaks finest hour in the IHR. Wins for the VETS and
Ladies and good 3rd place for the open team.

The vets team was
strong and we all secretly fancied going for the sub 4 hour mark in
what were good conditions. Mike and Dave ran strongly and plummeted off
red screes to bring us home in front and 6th overall. Steve’s
experience made sure no mistakes were made on leg 2 although many teams
seemed to have very strong pairing on this leg. At least he and Simes
got the chance to run alongside Ian Holmes for a while before he
started descending!  John  Boyle took a good line up the hill from
Hartsop – and I hung on for grim death and we finished strongly to keep
top spot over a fading Bowland. John and Jon had a 14 minute lead over
the nearest vets team going into leg 4 which they extended to 18 mins
by the end. Although John suffered in the second half of the leg they
brought us home in 3:58:47 breaking the record we set in 2007 – surely
Kendal AC  3:50 overall record (for clockwise route) is possible.

Thanks
to all the team for their total commitment to the cause. It’s not just
a matter of picking a good team –  everyone has to perform on the day
and so we did. Well done!  Pictures to follow.
