The start was from the shore line on Eilean nan Coinein. Unfortunately as there hadn’t been a reccy (or much pre thought) we both took the direct line to the 27 meter summit. Within seconds we were trapped in neck deep brambles, rocks and other difficulties. Together with the non functioning legs from the warm up the day before the going was slow. Tom persisted in the straight line and I decided to take a line to the left that looked easier. After almost getting crag bound on the climb I found myself on better ground but behind Tom. A sprint was made for the trig point. For a moment I just thought I may get to the top first but Tom as ever made a determined sprint for the finish and I made a respectable second. The field was small but we would have welcomed any other competitor if there had been any about. The race was short and difficult underfoot but the views were as good as they come, particularly on the decent when a little bit more time allowed a better line to be found. Next time!
