Previously run as the M68, the Stagecoach 57A bus departs Sheffield Interchange at about 09:00 on Sunday 19th April. It works its way via Hillsborough to Langsett Barn. You are invited to get on the bus and thus join the race. You will need to be totally self sufficient in the mountain terrain, carry all appropriate navigation equipment and know how to use it, full FRA and additional emergency survival kit, dry clothing and money for the Railway café and return train from Edale back to Sheffield. There will be no gear checks as the responsibility is yours alone. There will be no support en route.
The route is one way following a natural line? across the wilderness part of the peak with plenty of rough running. The “straight line” distance is about 17 miles and is anticipated to take a minimum of 5 hours. The check points will be Mickleden Pond, Horse Stone, Barrow and Grinah Stones and Oyster Cabin with two or three check points to be confirmed on the day taking you across the Kinder Plateau to Edale.
Experienced runners will need to look after themselves. People who are not confident of their hill competence should team up with people who are.
We need a quorum of about half a dozen runners (less is more?) so please let me know if you want to run via e mail tom.westgate@hrsservices.co.uk or telephone me on 07734 066386. The bus timetable and further information will be made available closer to the date.
