Congratulations to James Lowe and Lisa Watson who completed their BG’s last weekend. James reports… “Finally mustered the courage to give it a go. Had always told myself I would do it in good weather, well slept, well trained and with minimal fuss. Kept it simple going (nearly) self-supported with endurance machine Dr Watson. The weather also worked out after we pushed it back 24 hours with an amazing sunset and glorious sunshine (minus a cold headwind overnight). The 6.30pm start definitely didn’t suit me and soon lack of training (largely due to beer consumption) started to tell. Went into a hole on Leg 3 and needed a sit down at Wasdale and lots of patient nagging from Lisa to get going again. Found some energy out of nowhere and got it done in 22.56. Thanks to Lisa for joining me for the day out and Lova for giving us some company on Leg 1. Lots of R&R needed but I’m a very happy chap!”

Congratulations also to Laurence Piercy who last weekend achieved the second completion of the Tyndrum Round, Pete Davies’s creation in the Southern Highlands. Further details of the round here.

Past events

Alport

James Lowe and Jack Foxall to the fore. Results.

Blencathra

Jack Foxall reports “Really good Dark Peak turnout for a midweek Lakes race. It’s a heck of an outing for a weekday evening though – a proper Lakes AM. Young rising star Finlay Grant finished second, within a minute of first place.” Results.

Bamford Sheepdog Trials

Finlay Grant 2nd, Chet Gillespie 3rd and Joe Woodley 4th. Mike Nolan 1st M50 and Chris Shaw 3rd M60. Results.

Big Stone

The first running of this new Peak District race from Chinley was well received. Helen Elmore commented “Very well organised. The route had something for everyone . Fantastic fast technical descent but also accessible for novices and older juniors.” Helen Elmore 1st F50, Andy Barnett 1st M60, Peter Macfarlane 3rd M65. Results.

Burbage Skyline

Euan Patton, 2nd overall, was the quickest of the 33 Dark Peak Fell Runners in the field. Rachel Thorley won the women’s race with Helen Elmore 1st W50 and Mike Nolan 1st M50.

Results.

Mam Tor / Odin Mine

The Thinking Man’s Parkrun with, according to my watch, 674m of ascent packed into just 5.2km. Great run by Josh Williams to finish in 38:20 and the Lantern Rouge to Young Carshare.

Upcoming events

Tuesday 14th June – Carlton Crawl, White Peak near Ilam.

Wednesday 15th June – Andy’s last Crookstone Crashout as R.O.

Thursday 16th June – Grindleford.

Saturday 18th June – Buckden Pike, British and English championship counter.

Saturday 18th June – Great Lakes. Highly recommended.

On the same day and closer to home are both Shrigley Stag and James Blakeley.

Sunday 19th June – Passing Clouds. Recommended, not as highly as Great Lakes, but recommended nevertheless.

Monday 20th June – Trunce 5

Tuesday 21st June – Trevor Milner Riber Run

Wednesday 22nd June – Dark Peak Stones followed by the AGM at The Norfolk Arms.

Friday 24th June – The DPFR BG Machine will swing into action at 18:45. Andrew Holt and Alex Welbourne are this year’s contenders. To those who haven’t been on one of these extravaganzas before, the annual BG weekend is simply the best thing that the club does. (IMHO of course!)

Friday 24th June – Tideswell.

Saturday 25th June – Buttermere Horseshoe, the third Lakeland Classic and, for my money, the stiffest of the lot.
