Covid
Almost the whole of England remains in the “National lockdown: Stay at Home” tier. The following sentence is lifted from the official guidance: “You should minimise time spent outside your home, but you can leave your home to exercise. This should be limited to once per day, and you should not travel outside your local area.” All club activities remain suspended.
Having joined DPFR comparatively recently, 2009 in fact, I never met Malcolm Patterson before he moved north of the border and became a Shettleston Harrier. In the 80’s he was a top class orienteer and fell runner. Many of you will know him well. Anyway, I stumbled across a profile of Malcolm that appeared in The Fellrunner in 2017. You can read it here: https://itsahill.files.wordpress.com/2017/11/malco…
Upcoming events:
Until 31st January – Tigger Tor. Open to those for whom Burbage Moor is in their local area, Totley AC are running Tigger Tor as a time trial from the Lady Canning’s Plantation carpark on Sheep Hill Road. Whilst there are no prizes, there are competitions for the usual 10 year age categories visiting the checkpoints in any order, visiting the checkpoints in alphabetical order, visiting the checkpoints while covering the least distance and running the course the most times. I’ve now been round six times with a PB of 1:20:00, visited the six checkpoints in alphabetical order in 2:05:07 and a shortest recorded distance of 10.79km. This involved more wading through deep heather in straight lines than I care for. Two highlights stand out from these outings. (1) Being chest deep in Burbage Brook just above Toad’s Mouth when Storm Christophe was doing its thing. This was quite refreshing. (2) Bumping into three of our clubmates near Parson House. I estimated their accumulated age to be just north of 200! Details here… http://www.totleyac.org.uk/tigger-tor It’s free to enter but runners are encouraged to donate the usual £10 entry fee to Edale Mountain Rescue.

Firm underfoot for the Tigger Tor race.
