Upcoming events:
From Monday 29th June to Sunday 5th July – This week’s counter in the DP 2020 TT Leagues is Alport Watershed TT. This is Paul Walwyn’s new race from the footbridge below Alport Castles Farm. Note that you need to park outwith the Alport valley and walk in. Paul writes “If approaching from Westend, which is possible to access by car Mon-Fri, you may start/finish at the path junction at Birchen Hat.” This is at SK 14134 91582.
Until Thursday, 2nd July – Tha Sprunce (Race 6 Route 2) Last week in Race 5, Tom Saville and Sally Fawcett set the fastest times on the new Sprunce route. Ken Jones won the handicap for the second week in succession and the rest of us are going to have to step up a bit to deny him a hat-trick. I presume that The Sportsman will be opening next weekend and the guidance on how sporting events can be held is also evolving. However, I have absolutely no intention of changing how we organise Tha Sprunce.
In the TT leagues last week, the 73rd running of the Crookstone Crashout yielded wins for Josh Williams in 30:13, which is quick and Majka Kunica in 38:33, and so’s that! Then at the weekend, 32 hardy souls completed the Summer Solstice TT and 2 didn’t. As has often been the case with the TT races staged over a number of days, it was run in a variety of weather conditions. Two teams shot round the Derwent Watershed in well under 8 hours which is no mean feat. Lewis Ashton and Rosie Walwyn are the worthy leaders of the two TT leagues.
