30 runners contested the 5th Sprunce which was the first to be run on Route 2. Times were typically 4 minutes longer than on Route 1 with more technical running in the woods and the steep climb at the end. Despite warnings, a few folk managed to miss the sharp right hand turn over the wooden bridge and stile to exit Rivelin woods. The other danger in these parts is the stile itself, which I tried and failed to bolster.

Tom set the men’s course record despite stopping to lie down in the stream and Sally has again set the standard for the women. Evergreen Ken Jones won the handicap with something to spare. Race 6 is already open.

I presume that The Sportsman will be opening early next month and the guidance on how sporting events can be held is changing. However, I have absolutely no intention of changing how we organise Tha Sprunce
