A fantastic weekend in the lakes. Very tough courses for everyone I think and quite a few retirals in the longer classes.
Day 1 was tough with alot of steep rocky climbs including scafell pike (!) but despite warm weather there was a bit of cloud yesterday and a breeze so it kept the midges at bay. The overnight camp was in Borrowdale valley with an outdoor bar for beer, crips and choc so we were very spoilt.
The 2nd day looked slightly easier on first inspection but it soon became clear that with only 2km less and nearly as much climb, coupled with a very hot day and strong sunshine, it was pretty much just as tough.
Dark Peakers did well with Debs and I 3rd on Scafell, Phil and Sally Ward 3rd on Bowfell, Richard and David Hakes 6th? on Scafell and Rick Ansell was 4th? on Klets.
Roy seemed to have enjoyed himself too-sorry Roy not sure where you finished but liked the beer can that doubled as a stove! Roger and Duncan Woods nearly finished the Scafell class but suffered in the heat and made a wise decision to bail on the 2nd day when you had the choice of turning right from number 6 up a long hot valley or left down to the finish! Janet and Polly also ran well on day 1 and were leading the women and 6th overall overnight but missed the last checkpoint today (as did quite a few people) and ended up 2nd by a few seconds.
Anyway everyone seemed to enjoy themselves I think and it was a great event-hopefully they dont get much harder than that!
