The Kinder Beer Barrell Challenge “Rob Little, Oli Johnson, Matt Hulley, Neil Northrop and Pete Hodges were joined by Rich Guillaume (South Yorkshire Orienteers), Ed Nicholas (HBT) and Todd Oates (Ambleside) for the Dark Peak Great Kinder Beer Barrel Challenge team. After losing for the first time in 5 years in 2011, the young, mostly, Dark Peak team won the 2012 event in some style from Gladioli, a team of esteemed fell runners from Matlock. After winning back the title the team put away the 72 pint prize with some gusto!“
Devil’s Beeftub:– clearly impressed by last year’s race, Mike was up there once more, finishing 4th.
Moel Wnion. – Final British Championship race. Ladies Results. Mens Results.

Our Ladies Team photo. More pictures are within DPFR photos.
A good, hard genuine AS course, this. Hot and dry. A very sharp start up a field, and steep “just runnable for some” stuff up the first part, hopefully leaving enough for the more runnable higher section, then hammer it back down again.
Ladies – as good as it gets? Team photo, I’m expecting, will be on its way. Helen must have put some big effort in, well clear in 2nd, behind Laren Jeska. Soon followed by Judith, and Liz. Admirably backed up by Clare and Victoria. Not hard to work out the team result, and with three first places, most deservedly Champions.
Men:- Borrowdale had indeed travelled down, but only 4 counters though? But Calder Valley had really brought out the troops, and clearly had more runners home than us. Remembering a piece by Jon morgan – they’d been previously to Moel Hebog, and recced’d this race on the way back. Something we need to get to grips with.
That means the Senior Men are 3rd? (Calder Valley must have got those extra points for winning?) , and Mv40 teams are 3rd. – or is it 2nd on Countback? We’ll await the FRA Statistician’s findings…
Sadly no V50 team, and with better runners not lining up, Carshare wobbled home for 2nd MV60.
A study of the results will be interesting. For the prestige of the British Championships, there were – as in Scotland and Ireland – only home country runners and travelling English.
The Mountain Trial: results. splits. “Warm and sunny with nice breeze up top. Shorter than expected but noone was complaining!”
A return to winning ways from Rhys, and some notable commitment to the cause, after Moel Wnion, from John Hunt, seeking Team Prizes at every possibility. Not yet more bottles of wine?
Carshare’s most unreliable statistician (not me!) thinks “we got 1st open male, 1st V40 male 2nd open female. 1st open team and 1st vets team . “
Shipman Knotts. A while back, but never mind. Dicky Wilkinson “and Ashley raced and had a good old battle with me outsprinting him in the last 100m. Nice little race that needs a bit of local knowledge to get the descent right – the Eryri leader from the summit lost a big lead descending on the ascent path whilst the faster line detoured around the crag. Great cakes afterwards!”
Longshaw Sheepdog Trials:-
Coombes Tor:- results.
Padfield Plum Fair:-
Stretton Skyline:–
Yorkshireman Full Marathon:- results.
