note corrections and extra control (in bold) – thanks to Andy for pointing out the errors!
There will be a main race at 10:30am and a junior race at 11:00am – Julia is organising and will provide an easy route up around the woods suitable for most ages! Refreshments at 5 St Helen\’s Croft afterwards.
I\’ve put together the following route which should offer a bit of everything.
Main Race 10:30am
Start SK245 779 Road path junction by (St Helen\’s Church, Grindleford)
CP1 SK266 778 Path junction (top of White edge)
CP2 SK278 776 Gate at fence path junction (north of old reservoir)
CP3 SK282 769 Road / path junction (east side of old reservoir)
CP4 SK278 756 Stone circle
CP5 SK264 759 White edge Trig Point
CP6 SK251 762 walled enclosure on Froggatt rdge(southern most point)
Finish SK245 778 Road Path Junction by (St Helen\’s Church, Grindleford)
The route starts out along the path followed by the Grindleford fell race which emerges near the Hay Wood car park. From there follow the path across the field to the Grouse Inn. A quick left then right along the main road takes you onto the path upto White edge. From CP1 continue along the wall (right hand side is best) until it ends. From there take a line across the moor to the nothern side of the old reservoir. You will find a gate (CP2) that joins the path which leads you into CP3. It\’s fast running now along the path down the Barbrook valley until CP4 (off to the left of the path). From here it\’s route choice to CP5 and CP6 with some very rough ground (Hint: look out for the stoops!). The route from CP5 to the finish should offer some route choice although there is a safe route back along froggatt edge and down through Hay Wood.
Parking shold be available in the village or at the station if we get a big turnout. Please park considerately.
Hope you can come. Any questions please contact despam(drmjnolan@hotmail.com,Mike Nolan)
