Dark Peak Road Runners:- our road correspondent sends:- “One of my former Road Running Club mates came 3rd in Stafford Half last weekend and was beaten by a guy called Rob Little ‘who normally runs XC or fells’. Rob came 2nd in a big race in 1:12 mins. Almost 5 mins 30s per mile pace! Don’t think he was wearing sandals this time………….”
Wolf’s Pit:- “The inaugural Nottinghamshire Fell Running Championship was held within the host race of Wolf’s Pit 20th March. Mark Salkild was open silver behind winner Paul Butcher of Southwell Running Club and Mark claimed the V50 gold, with Dicky Wilkinson 14th and Trevor Milner 26th. These 3 DPFR runners finished as 5th team, the winning team being Southwell Running Club.”
Middlefell – Wasdale. Steve Matthews was over that side, 22nd in 1.09.
Yr Aran – Bala. Results. A pre-run for the British Championship race, 9th July, for which entries can go in….
I’m told – “The course is out and back, the ridge along the top has some rocky/bouldery stuff underfoot which is moderately tricky on the way back down. The last mile or so is very fast. No route-finding problems – there is a fence nearby – but there are a lot of crisscrossing paths so it is not so easy to keep on the optimum line. “
Elterwater Common - results The Kendal Winter League, Mike was 4th and 1st V40.-
4 Lakeland Passes – LDWA event from Rosthwaite, which must be a classic…

Dark and White MM – Chapel-en-le-frith. results
“Not considered tough fell runners” – the Penistone paper, page 16 , names and “shames”. Seems to me they’ve not quite got it correct…
New Fellrunner:- loads to sift through, but looking at the preview of the FRA Relays, it doesn’t look hopeful from that for the V50 Team category, or for the LV40 Team. A shame, as last year we won them both. Presumably Kettlewell will be far more popular and accessible than previous years at Ennerdale and Fife, and more clubs entering teams. We shall see what is forthcoming.
Free Buffs (except postage). Ian was “sceptical at first but for the price of the postage £2.95 they will send you a 3(Three) free "buffs", Can’t go wrong at that price. details. Mine arrived this morning, Bargain.”
Wednesday (15th). Don’t forget – Mearley Clough entries should now be in the post – with SAE. Use the FRA Entry Form . This will fill up fast, so not hard to work out what will happen if we dawdle around.
This short and sharp, genuine classic AS. A gradual climbing run out up fields and farmer’s lane, a path up along the stream, and blast up the side of Pendle. For those who know the Full Tour, it’s the middle (2nd) of those last hard three climbs. Slip right over the clough top, and hurtle back down, legging it in down the lane and fields.
Similar to starting at the Odin Mine (Castleton). Run up the road, up the R side of Mam Tor face, round the top, down the other side and shift back down.
This is only a guide as to what may be involved, but you know what kind of training to be slotting in…
