results. “ As seems to be usual for this race of late the weather was threatening, with thunder claps in the distance.  Graham Moffatt was out front early with the 14/15 year old rising star Kristian Edwards of Tamworth in hot pursuit.  I was trying hard to keep in contact with Christine Howard of Matlock in the top 10.  Mark Salkild and I hit the climb up the HIgh Peak Trail together and remained in close contact about 20m behind Christine.  By the Trig, Graham had established a clear lead of about 30 seconds and I was in 9th behind a group of 3 including Christine.  The descent was fast, though fairly good under-foot despite recent rain.  A couple of runners passed me on through the woods and Mark caught me on the canal towpath.  Chris Howard ended up an impressive 7th overall.” – thanks to Martin Stocks.

Alan Brentnall helps out with:- ““The Wasdale race was very gnarly yesterday. Although it was warm and dry down in New Mills, in the Lakes, on the other side of the front, we had  rain, high winds and zero visibility for the whole day – not exactly what you want for a 22 mile race in complex geography! The winner’s time was over an hour outside Billy Bland’s record, and there were literally scores of drop-outs, with extremely slippery rock surfaces and high winds taking their toll. Afterwards there were great tales of folk descending from Scafell Pike into Piers Gill by mistake, visiting Pillar checkpoint twice and ascending to the Beck Head col only to find that it was Windy Gap … but I’m sure that these were only amusing in retrospect, not at the time! For myself, I was very happy just to finish without getting lost – picking up the prize for first in my age category was an added bonus! I think most of the codgers were resting in preparation for Holme Moss”.

Borrowdale Entries:- Substitutions are accepted, usually on the day. Rhys now has John Coe’s entry…

A super fast blast around this short classic. It was quite warm in the valley but a refreshing breeze on top cooled you down before plummeting back down the valley for that last terrible 500m up hill to the finish.
Shaun Dimelow was well clear but missed the turning after some one removed the markers allowing the second place runner to take the spoils.”
DT – ages back something similar happened, and Jo Smith was placed first. She’s now mum to newly born Bethan, as well as Katie.
